Wow this post is WAY overdue! But it was pretty much all i did my last semester of college and i think that it deserves some blogging time! So this past semester Megan Valantine and i had to come up with a new photography series that dealt with landscape. We had the entire semester to to come up with an idea, complete a series of work, and show our finished pieces in a gallery. At first i though 'an entire semester for one project!!!! This will be a breeeeeeze!' Ha, my thoughts about that changed very quickly. I have never had such a busy semester!!! 18.5 credits that included an internship and the gallery was an extra BIG project on the side.
I was soooo excited to get to work with Megan and Cooper Fosset this semester. Towards the end we all were together almost 24/7. Ha ha we had a blast getting to hang out so much, but i know there were times when we all wanted to pull our hair out and yell at somebody haha. Megan and i could have never finished this project without Cooper! She was our saving grace. She found an open location for us to put up our work, helped with advertising, found free entertainment, and free desserts for each day from Artful Edibles. Honestly this woman can do it all. I can't thank her enough for everything she has done. Cooper started up Rogue gallery last year and it has been a hit since day one. Rogue Gallery is a moving gallery that lets anyone in the community display their artwork. I love the idea of this because many times artists never have the opportunity to show off their art that they have worked so hard on. Cooper is an amazing gallery curator and artist herself. Check out Rogue Gallery HERE.Here are some pictures of the things we had to do to prepare for the gallery and the gallery itself!!!
Meg and I had to make hundreds of copies, print hundreds of fliers, cut, tape, and advertise like crazy for this gallery. This is what my finished posters and fliers looked like.
These were the invitiations Meg designed for all the professors at school. They were for the opening reception of the gallery. It was our busiest night by far and we were so happy with the turn out!
The start of the gallery....We thought we would never get it together. Luckily we all kept our heads in the game and got things done over two days. Ahhhh we had to pull white boards off the wall, hang pictures from rope and fishing line, make sure everything was perfectly even (hardest part by far!), paint lights, and make sure everything was spotless before anyone came to see. Both Meg and I's series were installation pieces. Meg brought in old peices of furniture and lawn ornaments for hers and i brought in big rocks, plants, jars, and more to make mine complete. Little did i know how big of a pain these rocks would be. A big thanks goes out to Ben Urie for helpin me with all those rocks!
HUGE thanks to Miss Kaeley Fawcett as well. Kaeley has been my amazing roommate for the past three years and has never hesitated when asked to help with something. Kaeley helped with hanging pictures, cleaning, painting, advertising, etc... Seriously i owe this girl BIG TIME! Thank you!!!!
So here are the pictures from my series. Like i mentioned above, our series had to deal with landscape. I wanted my series to be different from any other landscape photography i had seen. I decided to find a way to take my favorite parts of landscape with me where ever i went. I decided on jars to be the vessel that held each of these elements. I wanted to use bright colors, interesting textures, and uniquely placed models to give each picture a more surreal look and feeling. Here are the final images! I hope you all enjoy!
